Police in Hamilton discovered drugs worth £30,000 during a routine stop of a pick-up truck. The drugs, which included cannabis resin and amphetamine, were found in bags in the vehicle. The driver, 31-year-old Samuel O’Neill from Partington, Greater Manchester, appeared in Hamilton Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to being involved in the supply of the drugs in Low Waters Road and other locations on January 21.
According to Neil Thomson, the prosecutor in the case, the police had received information leading them to look out for a Ford Ranger vehicle. They spotted the truck leaving the M74 and followed it to Low Waters Road, where they conducted a search. The search resulted in the discovery of 1.8kg of amphetamine valued at £25,000 and 2.5kg of cannabis resin valued at up to £5,000. O’Neill, who was driving the vehicle alone, was subsequently arrested.
Sheriff Louise Gallacher has deferred O’Neill’s sentencing to the following month to allow for background reports and has allowed him to remain on bail.
