A woman who experienced a heart attack at the young age of 32 has shared her story to raise awareness about the symptoms she initially missed. Katelyn Jill, known as @paydaywithkate on TikTok, recalled how she was preparing for a party when she began to feel unwell. Initially ignoring the signs, Katelyn started feeling extremely hot and sweating, along with experiencing pain in her arm and tightness in her back muscles. With help from a friend, she realised something was seriously wrong when she started feeling pain in her lower back and losing sensation in her hands. It was her friend who recognised the symptoms as those of a heart attack and urged Katelyn to seek medical help immediately.
Katelyn checked her Apple watch, which showed alarming readings prompting her to be rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. Following two operations to have stents fitted, Katelyn was discharged but suffered a second heart attack a week later while running errands. This time, she spent another week in the hospital. Doctors informed Katelyn that she had experienced a STEMI, a severe type of heart attack characterised by relentless pain between the shoulder blades and intense pressure on the heart lasting for hours. Katelyn was also told she could have had ‘broken heart syndrome’ or stress cardiomyopathy, conditions linked to emotional stress and anxiety.
