Toryglen boxers showcase talent in Ireland’s ring
Young boxers from the Southside Boxing Academy & Community Hub in Toryglen recently took their skills across the Irish Sea to compete in boxing tournaments in Belfast and Wexford. The boxers put on impressive performances, showcasing their talent and determination in the ring and returning home with a haul of medals.
The first stop for the young boxers was the Belfast Halloween Box Cup weekend, where they went up against over 400 fighters. Despite tough competition, the Southside boxers managed to secure two gold medals and two silvers. Zain Iqbal stood out and was honoured with a special award for his outstanding displays during the tournament.
Coach Anthony Quayle commended the boxers for their incredible performance and expressed his gratitude to the coaching team for their dedication and support, which played a crucial role in the team’s success at the competition.
Following their success in Belfast, the Toryglen boxers headed to Wexford for the Wexford Box Cup the following week. The competition in Wexford saw around 500 entries, with the Southside boxers securing an impressive five gold medals and a silver out of nine entries. Their outstanding performance led them to finish third overall in the competition.
Anthony Quayle praised the boxers for their exceptional performance in Wexford, highlighting the academy’s talent and dedication. He also emphasised the invaluable international experience gained by the young athletes through such competitive tournaments and the support received from the community and fundraising efforts to make their participation possible.
The boxers’ success in Wexford was highlighted by five gold medallists: Mairead Mcgeoch, Callum Hand, Zain Iqbal, Ava Allison, and Kashif Mohammed. The achievements of the boxers were celebrated by Southside Boxing Academy & Community Hub, who expressed pride in their accomplishments and appreciation for everyone who contributed to making the journey a success.
