A folk music club in Ayr has arranged for the Dalrymple Ukulele Orchestra (D.U.O.) to headline their upcoming concert night. The orchestra is set to perform at the Abbotsford Hotel on Corsehill Road in Ayr on Tuesday, December 3. The Ayr Phoenix Folk Club shared the exciting news and expressed their anticipation for what promises to be a memorable evening of music.
According to a spokesperson for the Ayr Phoenix Folk Club, the D.U.O. has had a remarkable journey since their inception. Their debut performance at the Tam O’ Shanter bar received a standing ovation, sparking a series of invitations to festivals, concerts, and even weddings. The orchestra’s origin story dates back nine years ago to a New Year’s party in Dalrymple, where the idea of forming a ukulele orchestra was born.
The group of ladies behind the orchestra initially gathered around a kitchen table to practice with chord charts and Christmas songs. Over the years, new members have joined and others have moved on, but a core group of founding members has remained dedicated, shaping the orchestra’s unique and joyful character that resonates in their performances.
The concert on December 3 will feature support from Ayr Phoenix Folk Club’s floor singers. Doors will open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start, with entry priced at £9 payable in cash at the door.
