Dumfriesshire Cottage Hospital Awarded for Excellence in Care

Lochmaben Cottage Hospital in Dumfriesshire has received recognition for its outstanding patient care. The hospital’s staff are overjoyed after being honoured with the Level 3 Silver Care Assurance Award, following a series of surprise inspections. Senior charge nurse, Judith Milligan, expressed her delight, stating, “This award acknowledges the tremendous effort and dedication of our multi-disciplinary team in consistently delivering high-quality care over the past four years. It’s particularly gratifying to see a focus on rehabilitation now being acknowledged as a standard.”

Lochmaben Hospital is one of only three community hospitals remaining in the region, as the Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership decided against reopening several others for inpatient care. South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth commended the hospital’s team, saying, “I applaud the incredible staff at Lochmaben Hospital for this remarkable achievement. Their commitment to providing exceptional care is evident in the hospital being awarded the Level 3 Silver Care Assurance Award. It underscores the vital role of hospitals like Lochmaben, especially in light of recent closure decisions in the region.”

The Excellence in Care framework, a national initiative, aims to enhance nursing and midwifery services across the Scottish public sector to ensure a consistent high standard of care for all patients. It seeks to guarantee that individuals receiving care within NHS Scotland can trust in receiving compassionate, competent, and high-quality nursing care regardless of their location.

In conclusion, Lochmaben Cottage Hospital’s award for Excellence in Care is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of its staff in providing top-quality healthcare services to the community. The recognition underscores the importance of preserving and supporting community hospitals like Lochmaben to ensure continued access to outstanding healthcare for all residents in the region.
