Youngsters in Dumfriesshire are embracing the festive spirit as they participate in lantern-making workshops ahead of Annan’s Christmas festival. The first free workshop took place at The Anglers function room on Saturday, where children and adults alike showed off their creativity. Another workshop was held earlier this week, with the final session scheduled for November 23, inviting everyone to join in the fun.
The Annan Christmas Lights Committee is hard at work organising a lantern parade down the High Street on November 30 during the town’s Christmas switch-on event. Participants are encouraged to bring along their handcrafted lanterns to light up the festivities. The committee expressed their gratitude towards the community, particularly local businesses, for their generous contributions towards illuminating Annan for Christmas.
Julie Pepper, a member of the committee, initiated a JustGiving Page to raise funds for the event, surpassing their online target with £1,302 donated so far. Various businesses, including Rene’s Gifts & Accessories, R Johnstone & Sons, Moffat Fire and Security Ltd, as well as Kidner Opticians, have made substantial donations towards the cause. The community’s support has been instrumental in ensuring a memorable and joyful Christmas celebration for all in Annan.
