An Aberdeen schoolgirl has been lauded for her bravery after assisting in saving her father and younger sister from a terrifying crash. Hayley McKay, aged 11, was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the Scottish Ambulance Service for her quick thinking and actions when her dad John and eight-year-old sister Emily were involved in a collision outside Bucksburn Police Station in April. Hayley remained composed, comforting Emily and aiding the ambulance crew in assessing her until additional support arrived at the scene.
Rebecca, Hayley’s proud mother, shared her shock upon receiving the initial call from John and expressed gratitude towards the calm and reassuring response from the Scottish Ambulance Service staff. The family even practiced CPR with the ambulance team, emphasizing the importance of their assistance during the critical situation. To recognise Hayley’s exceptional efforts, Sarah Louise Houghton, Paramedic Team Leader in Aberdeen, welcomed the family to the Ambulance station for a special visit where Hayley was presented with the certificate by SAS staff members.

Sarah also commended the family for their gratitude and generosity, noting that the crew was delighted to reunite with Hayley and acknowledge her remarkable assistance.
