A young footballer from Banff, Adam Golebiewski, has shared his story of survival and perseverance after losing both his legs in a tragic car crash. The 18-year-old, who used to play as a goalkeeper for local club Deveronside JFC, was involved in a one-vehicle collision in Macduff while returning home from a night out with friends on September 8.
Adam was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where doctors informed him that his injuries were so severe that both of his legs needed to be amputated. Recalling the moment he learned about his condition, Adam expressed gratitude for being alive and unable to recall the details of the accident. His father, Adam Snr, described receiving the heart-wrenching phone call about his son’s accident as every parent’s worst nightmare.
Despite the challenging road ahead, Adam has shown remarkable resilience and positivity. He has undergone multiple surgeries and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at Woodend Hospital. His family is fully supportive, with his mother, Joanne, making a two-hour trip twice a day to be by his side. His father is focused on making their home accessible for Adam’s needs.
Adam’s determination shines through as he works hard on building his upper body strength for the eventual fitting of prosthetic legs. Despite the uncertainty about his future in football and his career as an apprentice builder, Adam remains resolute in his belief that life will go on. His positive outlook has been a source of strength for his loved ones during this challenging time.
The car crash also affected Adam’s best friend Curtis West, who sustained a back injury. Two other individuals, an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, were also hospitalized following the incident. Police investigations into the crash are ongoing.
