North Lanarkshire Council granted extension to temporary road closure concerning Newmains Main Street

North Lanarkshire Council has been granted an extension to a temporary road closure concerning Newmains Main Street. Originally scheduled to run from September 30 to December 1, the council has now been given permission to extend the works until Sunday, December 22. The closure will affect A73 Main Street from its junction with A722 Manse Road to its junction with School Road. During this period, vehicles on the north side of the closure will be rerouted via A722 Manse Road, A722 Cambusnethan Street, A722 Kirk Road, A721 Stewarton Street, A721 Wishaw Road, A71 Overtown Road and A73 Main Street. Vehicles on the south side of the closure needing access to the north side should follow the same route in reverse.

The second phase of the closure will involve the northbound closure of A73 Main Street from its junction with School Road to its junction with A722 Manse Road. Subsequently, work will continue on the road between School Road and A722 Manse Road, before concluding at School Road from its junction with A73 to Church Avenue. Concurrently, a temporary road closure on Tinto Crescent in Wishaw has also been confirmed, scheduled to take place from December 18 to 20 for Scottish Water manhole repairs. Vehicular and pedestrian access will be permitted where feasible during this closure, with vehicles on the south side of the road closure needing to access the north side redirected south, west, north, and east around Tinto Crescent, and vice versa.

The road closures and works are essential for maintenance and improvement purposes, ensuring the safety and functionality of the road network in the area. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to follow the designated diversion routes and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid any inconvenience.
