Iconic Falkirk Kelpies Offers Thrillseekers Chance to Climb 100-Foot High Monument in ‘Epic Experience’
The iconic Kelpies structures, which loom over the M9 motorway, will now see keen charity fundraisers and thrillseekers scale the monuments after the opening of The Kelpies Experience.
Visitors to Scotland’s iconic Kelpies tourist attraction can take on an entirely new experience by climbing to the top of the 100-foot high monuments. Scottish Canals have launched Scotland’s newest visitor attraction – The Kelpies Experience. The canal custodians have partnered with Zone Events to bring participants the unique opportunity to climb safely to the top of the inside of The Kelpies.
The Kelpies are the world’s largest equine sculptures standing 98-feet tall against the Falkirk skyline. The new climbing experience will see people tackle a 25-metre aerial climb, taking them straight to the horse’s mouth. Participants will ascend 25 metres to the mouth of Baron using a series of ladders, cable crossings, suspended platforms, and nets before descending by abseil or quick flight, offering a feeling of free-falling before gently lowering to the ground.
The highlight of the climb is reaching the Kelpie’s mouth and being rewarded with panoramic views of the Forth & Clyde Canal and the nearby Helix parklands. The new attraction will provide a valuable platform not only for a unique experience but also for generating much-needed income for charities and other organisations. Initially, The Kelpies experience will only be available for large group bookings or by signing up to support one of the charity fundraiser events.
Scottish Canals’ Chief Executive Officer John Paterson expressed excitement about creating this unique challenge, describing it as an amazing experience that will allow visitors worldwide to step inside the magnificent Kelpies and discover the secrets within, along with experiencing a 25-metre aerial journey straight to the horse’s mouth. To launch the event, Scottish Canals have partnered with the Beatson Cancer Charity, allowing them to be one of the first charities to take part in the challenge. Charlene Low, Regional Fundraising Manager for Beatson Cancer Charity, highlighted the opportunity as a fantastic way to celebrate their 10th birthday while raising vital funds to support cancer patients and families.
Enquiries are now being taken for the experience, with all participants wearing full-body harnesses and helmets and connected to safety cables throughout. Groups of participants will be guided by two professional and friendly guides, with the experience lasting approximately 90 minutes.
