Adventurous Squirrels from Burnside Earn Acorns after Completing Four-Pronged Challenge
A group of young Squirrels from a Scouts group in Burnside, formed around 18 months ago, have showcased their adventurous spirit by successfully completing a four-pronged challenge and earning their coveted Acorn Awards. The Acorn Award, the highest accolade a Squirrel can achieve, was won by the youngsters from the 185th Glasgow (Burnside) troop, who demonstrated their ability to enjoy adventures, assist their peers, and acquire new skills.
To earn their badges, the Squirrels undertook four challenges designed to encourage them to explore their surroundings, collaborate as a team, grow personally, embark on exciting adventures, and step out of their comfort zones. The challenges encompassed aspects such as Adventure, Self-awareness, Environment, and Teamwork, along with the completion of two activity badges.
Lesleyanne Gibson expressed pride in the achievement of the Squirrels, stating, “They are the first Squirrels at the 185th Burnside church scout group to receive the acorn award, and we are very proud of them.” The Squirrel section, which commenced in May 2023, saw all participating boys and girls achieve the prestigious award.
Meetings for the Squirrel group are held on Friday evenings at Burnside Church from 6 pm to 7 pm. Parents interested in enrolling their children can email 185sql@gmail.com to inquire or join the waiting list for the programme.
In summary, the young Squirrels from Burnside have exemplified determination, teamwork, and a willingness to explore and grow by completing challenging tasks and earning their well-deserved Acorn Awards. Their dedication and achievements serve as an inspiration to their peers and a testament to the values instilled in them through their scouting experience.
