Police in Wishaw discovered cannabis valued at £8,500 during a search of a man’s residence in the Netherton area. Andrew McLeary, 53, residing on Kirkhill Road, was found to have connections to drug dealing based on messages on his phone, as revealed in Hamilton Sheriff Court. McLeary confessed to being involved in the cannabis supply between March 26 and April 10 of the previous year.
According to the prosecution by Aislin O’Donnell, police officers approached McLeary while he was seated in a vehicle outside his home around 11.30am. The officers detected the smell of cannabis and proceeded to search him, during which McLeary indicated there were items in his home. A search warrant was obtained, leading to the recovery of a bag of cannabis and a mobile phone from the property. Examination of the phone uncovered messages related to the sale of cannabis dating back to March 26.
As a result of the findings, Sheriff John Hamilton postponed sentencing for McLeary until the following month to allow for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment. Stay updated with the Lanarkshire Live app for the latest regional news and exclusive stories.
