Seal pups at a rescue sanctuary are enjoying fish suppers thanks to a generous donation from a seafood company. The Caithness Seal Rehab and Release centre, which focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating seals before releasing them back into the wild, recently received 1.5 tonnes of mackerel from Denholm Seafoods in Peterhead. This donation has significantly helped the sanctuary, as they spent £13,000 on fish alone for the seals last year.
Operated by husband and wife team Clare and Phil Boardman along with nine volunteers, the sanctuary in Brough is the only seal sanctuary in Caithness. Clare Boardman expressed gratitude for the donation, stating, “This saves us a huge cost.” The gesture from Denholm Seafoods has not only provided necessary sustenance for the seal pups but has also alleviated financial strain on the sanctuary.
