A woman from Dumfries, Vika Paul, has found solace in fundraising efforts after experiencing the heartbreaking loss of two babies. The support she received from befrienders at Dumfries and Galloway SANDS inspired her to take on a challenge of running 50 miles in one month to raise funds for the charity.
Vika expressed her gratitude towards the charity, stating that SANDS held a special place in her heart as they provided crucial support during the most difficult times of losing two pregnancies. She recently handed over a cheque of £1,421 to Alison Hall from the charity and highlighted the importance of raising awareness about the assistance available regardless of the pregnancy term.
Reflecting on her fundraising journey, Vika shared that the challenge had a significant emotional impact on her, triggering memories of her own loss and battling with feelings of anger, sadness, and confusion. However, as the weeks progressed, she found herself gradually confronting and managing her emotions, focusing on hope, positivity, and the sense of community support.
Throughout the challenge, Vika leaned on the encouragement of her sponsors, family, friends, colleagues, and even strangers, which kept her motivated to push forward. She described the experience as a form of self-healing and a way to process her grief while contributing to a meaningful cause, thanking everyone who supported her along the way.
Acknowledging the individuals who stood by her during the challenge, including her befrienders Alison and Ashley, as well as a local business that supported her cause, Vika also expressed gratitude towards her husband for his constant support and encouragement. She viewed the fundraising endeavour as a transformative event in her life, helping her to navigate her emotions and raise awareness within the community.
Vika’s journey serves as a testament to the resilience and strength exhibited in the face of adversity, inspiring others to find healing through acts of kindness and community support. Her dedication to honour the memory of her babies and support a charitable cause reflects the power of turning personal tragedy into a positive force for change and healing.
