Ayrshire prepares for the annual Santa Dash event set to unite the community in festive spirit. Organised by Ayr Rugby Club, Ayr United FC, and Ayr Cricket Club, the Santa Dash will take place on Sunday, December 15, starting at Ayr Promenade near Pirate Pete’s. Participants will don Santa costumes and dash along a 5km route to Ayr Rugby Club’s Millbrae ground.
The event is not just about fun but also serves as a platform for fundraising for various causes such as local sports teams, community groups, or charities. Ayr Rugby Club Chairman, Brian Williamson, emphasised the inclusivity of the event, welcoming individuals of all ages and fitness levels to walk, jog, or run.
Graeme Mathie, Ayr United MD, expressed his hopes for a bigger and better event this year following the success of the previous year, which saw nearly 200 participants and raised significant funds. Entry to the Santa Dash is priced at £5 for adults and £3 for children, inclusive of a complimentary Santa Hat and a finisher’s medal.
Participants are also encouraged to raise funds for their chosen causes, with a portion of the proceeds going to charities like Ayrshire Cancer Support, The Ayrshire Hospice, and Harbour Ayrshire. The event kicks off at Ayr Beach Park and finishes at Ayr Rugby Club, with check-in starting at 11am and the race beginning at 12pm.
