Two East Kilbride organisations were recently awarded a total of £4.5k from the Co-op’s Local Community Fund. The 6th East Kilbride Scouts and the town’s Loaves and Fishes food bank have been celebrating this significant financial boost, thanks to the fund’s support. The Co-op’s Local Community Fund aims to make a positive impact in local communities, and both South Lanarkshire organisations have been grateful recipients. The 6th East Kilbride Scouts received £1986, while Loaves and Fishes were awarded £2562.
The community groups not only benefit from the funding but also feel a stronger connection to their community, with 95% of causes stating that participating in the fund has helped raise their profile locally. Co-op members play a crucial role in driving the amount received by selecting the local cause they wish to support via the Co-op’s Membership App.
Since 2020, the Co-op’s Local Community Fund has shared over £58 million with more than 20,500 community groups across the UK, contributing to the creation of resilient and thriving communities. Rebecca Birkbeck, Director of Community and Member Participation at Co-op, emphasised the importance of supporting local communities and creating a tangible difference in people’s lives through this funding.
The fund is further boosted by the convenience retailer’s ‘Winners Share It All’ prize draw, offering opportunities to win £5000 for causes and £500 for Co-op members. This initiative highlights the commitment of Co-op to empower communities and foster a sense of togetherness.
