A Scottish mother with a passion for Christmas lights is on a mission to support a vital dementia charity by illuminating her home in East Kilbride. Ruth Moore is lighting up her house in Bosfield Place, East Mains, to raise funds for the East Kilbride and District Dementia Carers Group for the second year in a row. The charity is facing financial challenges, and Ruth is determined to help them stay afloat by spreading festive cheer through her brightly lit display.
Ruth carries on a tradition started by her late father, William Miller, who loved transforming their family home into a winter wonderland. Every year, Ruth and her family and friends work tirelessly to create a magical Christmas experience for the community. The festive lights will be on display from December 3 to December 30, welcoming visitors from 5pm to 8pm.
As a former care worker, Ruth understands the importance of supporting local charities like the EK Dementia Carers. Last year, she raised £2500 for the charity and aims to surpass that amount this year. With a goal of raising £3000 or more, Ruth hopes to provide much-needed assistance to the charity, which relies on donations and grants to continue offering essential services to people with dementia and their carers.
The EK Dementia Carers Group has been a lifeline for the East Kilbride community for over 30 years, providing care and support to those affected by dementia. However, they are currently facing a funding shortfall of £46,000 out of the £75,000 needed to sustain their services. The group coordinator, Brian Doig, emphasized the importance of community support in ensuring the charity’s continued operation.
Despite the challenges posed by the cost of living crisis and the loss of previous supporters, Ruth remains committed to her fundraising efforts. Her dedication to supporting local charities and spreading joy during the festive season is truly commendable.
