A drug dealer, Kyle Kerr, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for setting fire to a man’s car in Wishaw, claiming it was an act of revenge following a serious assault against him. Kerr, 34, had previously been jailed for two years in June for supplying cocaine. Police had seized three bags of cocaine worth £2,040 from his home in Wishaw in June 2023. Additionally, £605 in mixed notes, digital scales with white powder residue, and small bags for drug distribution were found at his residence.
While on bail, Kerr was caught with cocaine worth £460 in Kirknethan, Netherton, in August the following year. During this incident, he attempted to flee and assaulted a police officer before being apprehended. While still facing drug-related charges, Kerr set fire to a Mercedes vehicle in Caledonian Road, Wishaw, on February 29 of the current year. He admitted to the charge of wilful fireraising at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
Prosecutors revealed that Kerr was witnessed pouring liquid onto the car before it became engulfed in flames. It was determined that petrol had been used to start the fire, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. Kerr’s defence lawyer stated that the car owner had previously assaulted Kerr, leading him to retaliate in the way described. Kerr’s criminal record, which includes previous convictions for fireraising and violence, was highlighted in court.
