Thug Holds Knife Against Elderly Female Relative’s Throat During Drunken Rampage
A disturbing incident unfolded in Coatbridge as a thug, identified as James McCafferty, held a knife against an elderly female relative’s throat during a drunken rampage at her home. The 28-year-old also caused havoc by smashing a TV, a mirror, and other items before driving off and crashing his car. The police later found him lying unconscious near the M8 in Glasgow.
McCafferty appeared in Airdrie Sheriff Court this week, where he pleaded guilty to threatening or abusive behaviour in Thistledown Grove, Coatbridge, on June 28 while on bail. Additionally, he admitted to driving dangerously, assaulting two police officers, racially abusing a third officer, and failing to provide a blood test.
According to reports presented in court, McCafferty smashed a window at the woman’s property around 2pm, entered through the broken glass, and proceeded to cause chaos while intoxicated and shouting abuse. He menaced the women with a knife, threatening to kill them and demanding to know the whereabouts of another family member. The older woman was cornered, at which point McCafferty held the knife against her throat before leaving the scene by driving off in his vehicle.
Witnesses observed McCafferty recklessly weaving through traffic and subsequently crashing into a fence. His erratic behaviour led to the police being alerted, eventually locating his crashed car near Glasgow Fort shopping centre. Following a brief search, the officers found him unconscious at Queenslie Industrial Estate, where they administered naxolone to revive him. Subsequently, he assaulted a police officer and directed racial slurs at another before being taken into custody. Sentencing has been postponed for further background reports.
