Award-winning Photographer George Robertson Presents at Motherwell Photo Society
Renowned photographer George Robertson was the guest speaker at the recent meeting of the Motherwell Photographic Society. Robertson, a member of the Milngavie and Bearsden Camera Club as well as the Scottish Photographic Circle, has received multiple awards for his outstanding work. His latest accolade includes winning the Mountain Photo of the Year 2024 for a stunning image captured on the Isle of Skye.
During the event, Robertson shared insights from his experiences as an international mountain leader, particularly focusing on his treks to the summit of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. With eighteen successful treks to the 5895m mountain, his presentation titled “The Snows of Kilimanjaro – Trekking on Africa’s Highest Mountain” captivated the audience.
The evening began with captivating images showcasing the villages and inhabitants residing at the base of the mountain. Attendees were then taken on a visual journey through the rainforest, moorland vegetation zone, alpine desert, and finally, the summit zone of Kilimanjaro. Robertson provided valuable information on the challenges and logistics involved in leading treks to the mountain peak and ensuring the safety of all participants.
Following the presentation, a question-and-answer session allowed members to engage with Robertson, gaining further insights into his remarkable adventures. Rodger Shearer, the vice-president of the club, expressed gratitude to Robertson for his entertaining and informative talk, enriched with high-quality imagery.
In the upcoming meeting on Thursday, December 5, the Motherwell Photographic Society will conduct the judging for their second print competition of the season. The event will be officiated by Campbell Skinner from the Greenock Camera Club. The Society typically meets on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm in the Holytown Community Centre.
