Scots dad fuming after Ryanair gives him £3.30 voucher for 24 hour delay

A Scottish father is expressing frustration after budget airline Ryanair provided him with a £3.30 voucher following a 24-hour flight delay due to adverse weather conditions. Gary Lindsay, along with his two daughters, was returning to Edinburgh from Krakow when their flight, scheduled for 11.25 am on November 27, was postponed due to poor weather. Despite briefly boarding the plane, they were asked to deboard and informed that the flight was rescheduled for 7 am the following day. This unexpected delay required Gary and his children to spend an extra night in a hotel, cover their own meals, and arrange transport to and from the airport.

Gary is still awaiting compensation for the additional expenses incurred during the extended delay. Ryanair, upon being approached for a statement, apologised to all passengers affected by the delay and confirmed receipt of Gary’s compensation request. Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Gary shared his disappointment with the lack of information provided by the airline, citing the meagre £3.30 meal voucher per passenger as particularly inadequate. Despite the challenging circumstances, Gary acknowledged that the weather conditions were beyond Ryanair’s control but emphasised the importance of better customer service and communication protocols in such situations.

Following a series of flight rescheduling and setbacks, including an engine issue preventing takeoff and crew shortages, Gary and his children eventually departed almost 24 hours later than planned. Despite submitting expenses totalling around £141 for the additional night’s stay, meals, and transportation, Gary has yet to receive a response from the airline regarding reimbursement. Reflecting on his ordeal, Gary criticised Ryanair’s handling of the situation, describing the overall experience as a display of poor customer service.

As of December 2, five days after the disrupted flight, Gary is still awaiting resolution on his compensation claim. Ryanair, in response to the incident, acknowledged the weather-related delay and the challenges faced by all airlines operating in Krakow on that day. The airline highlighted its efforts to communicate with affected passengers and provide them with options for rebooking or refunds. Ryanair also issued refreshment vouchers to passengers and offered assistance in arranging accommodation, albeit subject to availability.

In summary, Gary Lindsay’s experience highlights the importance of effective communication and customer service in the face of unforeseen travel disruptions. While weather-related delays are unavoidable, providing timely and transparent updates, sufficient compensation, and support can significantly improve passenger satisfaction during such challenging circumstances. Airlines are reminded of the essential duty to prioritise customer well-being and address concerns promptly to uphold positive passenger experiences amidst travel uncertainties.
