Police in Perth are on the lookout for two thieves who stole a life-saving defibrillator from a shop and made their getaway in a taxi. The incident occurred outside a Spar store on Percy Street in Stanley, where the community-accessible defibrillator was housed. The theft took place around 1.30 am on Sunday, October 27, but was only noticed later when the device was found discarded in a carrier bag in the Bertha Park area of Perth on November 11.
Initially, the theft went unreported as it was assumed that the defibrillator had been taken for a legitimate medical emergency. However, upon discovery of the device with its battery missing, it became evident that it was a case of theft. The estimated cost for replacing the battery and necessary repairs amounts to around £360.
Police are now seeking two individuals in connection with the theft. Descriptions provided point to one tall man with dark hair wearing a dark jacket, and another tall man with dark hair wearing dark clothing. The thieves were seen taking the defibrillator from its cabinet and then getting into a black taxi designated for disabled access, which promptly drove away from the scene. Police are urging the taxi driver or anyone with information to come forward.
