Convicted baby killer nurse Lucy Letby investigated for additional deaths
Former nurse Lucy Letby, who was convicted of killing seven babies and attempting to kill seven more, is now being questioned by the police regarding more infant deaths. Cheshire Police have confirmed that Letby was interviewed in prison under caution in connection with unexpected deaths and collapses of infants at the Countess of Chester Hospital. In addition, she was asked about cases from her time at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital, where she had a clinical placement as a student.
Letby, a 34-year-old neonatal nurse, was found guilty in 2023 of murdering seven babies and trying to kill seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital over a 13-month period. A police spokesperson stated that the interview with Letby took place after a review of the 4,000 babies she cared for throughout her nursing career, which began in January 2012. Letby is currently serving a rare whole-life sentence at HMP Bronzefield in Surrey, a prison for high-risk female prisoners.
Following her conviction, Letby was denied leave to appeal her 15 whole-life sentences earlier this year. The police confirmed that she was interviewed with her legal representative present, as part of the ongoing investigation into baby deaths and collapses at the two hospitals she worked at. The Thirlwall Inquiry, initiated in October 2024, is examining the events at the Countess of Chester Hospital in light of Letby’s crimes and convictions.
