A violent incident outside a nightclub in Stirling has left a man with a serious brain injury, with the perpetrator facing a potentially lengthy prison sentence. Rory Hunter, aged 23, delivered a single punch to his victim, causing the individual to fall to the ground and hit his head on the pavement. The assault occurred in the vicinity of a nightclub on Goosecroft Road near the new Travelodge building in the early hours of the morning.
The victim, who had been attending the Stirling Agricultural Show earlier that day, was out with a friend before the altercation took place. Following a verbal exchange between the victim and a passing car, Hunter exited the vehicle and struck the victim in the face, rendering him unconscious. Passers-by rushed to assist the injured man, who was later taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for emergency surgery due to bleeding on the brain.
As a result of the assault, the victim has been left with a permanent scar on his head, a significant dent from surgery, and continues to experience short-term memory challenges. Hunter, a father from Bridge of Allan, pleaded guilty to charges of assault causing severe injury, permanent impairment, permanent disfigurement, and endangering life at Stirling Sheriff Court.
During the court hearing, Hunter displayed visible emotion as the details of the assault were presented. The Sheriff deferred sentencing until October 30, advising Hunter to prepare for a probable custodial sentence. Concerns were raised about the rings Hunter wore during the attack, with the court requesting further information regarding their resemblance to knuckledusters, given his history of a previous conviction involving such a weapon.
