Dumfries and Galloway’s Young Achievers Recognized at DG Youth Awards
The outstanding accomplishments of young people in Dumfries and Galloway were celebrated at the annual DG Youth Awards in Dumfries’ Easterbrook Hall. The event commenced with a lively cheerleading performance by Envy Cheerleading from Stranraer, followed by opening remarks by Ailsa McDairmant, chairperson of Dumfries and Galloway Youth Council.
Iain Corbett, a keynote speaker from the University of Strathclyde, emphasized the significance of youth work in building resilience and confidence among young individuals, acknowledging the challenges they face in today’s society. Josh Parker was honoured for his achievements in sport, representing Scotland in The Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships. Listen2Us Research Group received recognition for their dedication to advocating for the care-experienced community. The Newton Stewart Initiative’s Trainee Youth Workers were lauded for their positive impact on empowering young people in the community.
In addition, individuals such as Emma Halliday, Nadine McDonald, Lucas Moorhouse, Riley True, and groups like Through Young Eyes Steering Group were acknowledged for their remarkable contributions. The event culminated in the grand announcement of Josh Parker as the Young Person of the Year 2024.
