A Scottish influencer caused quite a stir after bringing a replica gun to a prison to create content for TikTok. Kenzie Goddard, a former Scottish Youth Parliament candidate, was seen with the fake gun tucked into his waistband near Perth Prison, triggering an armed police response.
During the court hearing at Perth Sheriff Court, it was revealed that Goddard had a peculiar interest in police and prison services. He was apprehended by vigilant police officers who noticed the gun as he walked past their car. The police quickly intervened and apprehended Goddard, who was in possession of an imitation Glock 19 handgun.
It came to light that Goddard had been filming outside the court building on a previous occasion to garner likes on TikTok. Accompanied by TikTok “lawyer” Leigh alias Lee Sutherland, Goddard admitted to having the imitation firearm near Perth Prison on March 14, 2024.
In court, it was stated that Goddard’s actions stemmed from gross immaturity rather than malicious intent. Solicitor Linda Clark highlighted that a structured deferred sentence could guide Goddard towards making better life choices and understanding the consequences of his actions.
Sheriff Krista Johnston expressed concern over Goddard’s flippant attitude towards social media and the implications of his irresponsible behaviour. Acknowledging the influence of social media, the sheriff emphasised the need for Goddard to take matters seriously and learn from the incident.
Consequently, Goddard was placed on a structured deferred sentence until March 5 next year as part of an educational measure to prevent further legal issues. This incident serves as a cautionary tale of the impact of social media influence on young individuals and the importance of using such platforms responsibly.
