Millions of people planning to visit South East Asia this winter have been warned about a common habit that could result in years of imprisonment. Travel experts have cautioned backpackers about the severe consequences of carrying vapes into South Asia, where vaping is prohibited in five countries. WickdUp, a travel advisory group, highlighted the risks faced by unknowing tourists who bring vapes or e-cigarettes to the region, as well as the dangers of illegal vaping products.
In the UK, vaping is widespread, but travellers must be aware of the differing laws in South Asian countries. For instance, in Thailand, vaping is entirely banned, and violations can lead to fines of up to £2,293 and/or imprisonment for up to five years. Similarly, in Singapore, where smoking is restricted in public places, vaping is illegal, and offenders could face fines of up to £10,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 12 months. Visitors to Cambodia and Vietnam should also take note that vaping is illegal in these countries, with penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment.
