Special Rededication Ceremony Marks 100 Years of Troon War Memorial
In a significant and poignant event, a rededication ceremony was held to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Troon War Memorial. The rededication of the memorial was led by Major David Dickson, with a Prayer of Dedication read by Rev Gillean Richmond, British Legion Padre, and Church of Scotland Minister for Troon, along with Father Willie Boyd from Our Lady of the Assumption, Troon. Provost Campbell also addressed the crowd, and a wreath was laid at the base of the cenotaph by the Lord Lieutenant of South Ayrshire.
Among the distinguished guests were Central Ayrshire MP, Alan Gemmell, and Vice Admiral Sir Thomas Baird KCB, a centenarian residing in Ayrshire. The ceremony was attended by various groups, including Kilmarnock RBL, Saltcoats Ardrossan and Stevenston RBL, 28th Ayrshire Scouts, 6th Troon Guides and Brownies, Troon Round Table, Troon Rotary, South Ayrshire Councillors, and more.
The troops fell silent in a moment of tribute, with Scouts groups and members of the public paying their respects. The Last Post and Reveille marked the end of the ceremony, accompanied by a Benediction recited by Rev Richmond and Father Boyd.
