Work has commenced on a £7.8 million project to transform the former Dalbeattie Primary School in Dumfries and Galloway into an exciting activity centre. The project, named Dalbeattie Rocks and Wheels, will offer a range of outdoor activities including climbing walls, a hostel, a pump track, and community rooms. The initiative, led by the Dalbeattie Community Initiative, has been in the works for several years, and ownership of the building was transferred through the council’s community asset transfer process.
The regeneration project is expected to take just over a year to complete, with Ashleigh Limited appointed as the main contractors. Specialized contractors will be responsible for the construction of the new pump track and bouldering facilities. Funding for the project includes £5.2 million from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund, as well as contributions from the Scottish Government Place Based Investment Programme, the National Lottery, Dumfries and Galloway Council, South of Scotland Enterprise, Sport Scotland, and the Holywood Trust.
