In an effort to combat a recent surge in anti-social behaviour targeting public service vehicles, Police Scotland has launched a crackdown on bus bandits in various parts of the country. Incidents involving thugs pelting buses with projectiles have been reported in both Edinburgh and Renfrewshire, prompting law enforcement to take action to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
In Edinburgh, investigations are ongoing following multiple instances of individuals throwing missiles at moving buses in the areas of Liberton and Gilmerton. Police Constables teamed up with Lothian Buses staff to patrol the affected areas and address the anti-social behaviour. Community Sergeant Jen Macgregor emphasized the seriousness of these incidents, highlighting the risks they pose to those onboard.
Similar measures have been implemented in Renfrewshire, where officers have collaborated with bus operator McGill’s, Renfrewshire Council, and British Transport Police to address reports of youth disorder and anti-social behaviour on the transport network. In addition to deploying uniformed and plainclothes officers for reassurance and engagement with passengers, the council is offering diversionary activities for young people to promote positive alternatives and reduce disruptive behaviour.
