Bereavement Support Charity Saves Suicidal Cambuslang Mum

In a heart-wrenching revelation, a Cambuslang woman, Wendy Chambers, shared her battle with suicidal thoughts after losing both her parents within a short period. Wendy’s parents, Dougie Chambers and Janice Milligan, passed away within 10 weeks of each other in 2020 during the Covid pandemic, leaving her struggling to cope with overwhelming grief.

Wendy, a 44-year-old mother of one, turned to Cruse Scotland, a bereavement support charity, for help. She credits the free support she received for saving her life and pulling her back from a “very, very dark place”. Wendy’s courageous decision to share her story through a video aims to encourage others facing similar struggles to seek help from organizations like Cruse Scotland.

In the video, Wendy narrates how initially she coped by keeping herself excessively busy, avoiding her feelings by working extra hours and pursuing a Master’s degree. However, after two years, the weight of unresolved grief drove her to contemplate taking her own life. It was at this critical point that reaching out to Cruse Scotland for face-to-face counselling support was a turning point for Wendy.

As the festive season approaches, Wendy’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the acute pain felt by those who have lost loved ones during Christmas. In a bid to raise awareness and support for Cruse Scotland, Wendy hopes to inspire others to contribute towards keeping essential services accessible and free for those in need.

Fiona Arnott-Barron, CEO of Cruse Scotland, highlighted the alarming frequency of stories similar to Wendy’s, emphasizing the critical role of support services in preventing tragedies. The charity stresses that even a small donation can make a significant difference in providing crucial helpline services to individuals grappling with grief.

Wendy acknowledges the profound impact Cruse Scotland had on her life, pulling her back from the brink and offering a lifeline during her darkest moments. Her story stands as a beacon of hope, underscoring the vital support bereavement charities provide to individuals navigating the tumultuous waters of grief.
