Celtic Supporter Amazed by Surprise Visit from Football Stars at Children’s Hospital
Seven-year-old Amelia Ruddick from Coatbridge received a heartwarming surprise when some of her beloved Celtic heroes paid her a visit at the children’s hospital this week. The young girl, who is a dedicated fan of the football club, was overjoyed when players like Callum McGregor and others from the team showed up at the children’s ward where she was receiving treatment.
Amelia, who has autism and attends a school for additional support needs, was in the Glasgow Children’s Hospital undergoing care for a bowel condition that requires her to have frequent hospital stays. The visit from the Scottish Premiership Champions, led by captain Callum McGregor, brought smiles and festive cheer to the sick children on December 2. Players such as James Forrest, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Kyogo Furuhashi joined in to brighten the children’s day.
Although Amelia’s mother, Nadia McFarlane, missed the visit due to being stuck in traffic, she expressed how much it meant to her daughter. Nadia shared, “It absolutely made her Christmas seeing all her Celtic heroes. She absolutely loves the team and was so happy to see them all.” Despite missing the special moment, Nadia was delighted for Amelia and recounted how her daughter’s gran, a Rangers fan, even posed for photos with the Celtic team.
Amelia, who was previously non-verbal autistic until just over a year ago, described the experience of meeting the players as “amazing”. She dreams of becoming a mascot for the team and walking out of the tunnel at Celtic Park with her favourite players. Nadia reflected on how the visit lifted Amelia’s spirits, and she was discharged from the hospital a few days later, hoping to spend Christmas at home with her siblings.
The family faces challenges with Amelia’s health, as she is in and out of the hospital frequently and is scheduled for surgery after the holidays. Despite the ongoing worries, Nadia is grateful for the joy the Celtic players brought to her daughter during her hospital stay. The heartwarming visit left a lasting impact on Amelia, who cherished the opportunity to meet her football idols and dreams of more interactions with them in the future.
