Newfield Primary pupils celebrate 10th Green Flag award

Newfield Primary School in Stonehouse recently marked a significant achievement as they celebrated receiving their 10th Green Flag Award from the international environmental Eco-Schools programme by charity Keep Scotland Beautiful. The Green Flag Award is the highest accolade in the programme, recognizing the school’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Eco-Schools and Young Reporters for the Environment programmes, Keep Scotland Beautiful hosted various activities including an online assembly, live lessons, and celebratory challenges. The school welcomed Keep Scotland Beautiful Chief Executive Barry Fisher and Education and Learning Officer Nicola Davidson, who presented the Eco-Committee with a certificate in honour of their milestone achievement.

Barry Fisher praised the school’s dedication to making a positive environmental impact over the past three decades and highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives like the Climate Action Schools framework. Headteacher Laura Horn expressed her gratitude to all past and present pupils and staff members who have contributed to the school’s eco initiatives, which have been integrated into the curriculum since receiving their first Green Flag in 2003.
