Kinnoull Tennis Club in Perth has recently unveiled its impressive new £150,000 facilities which are set to benefit both the local community and attract players from further afield. The club, established in 1887, has secured funds for the development of four new artificial courts, LED floodlights, and improved accessibility for disabled players to both the courts and clubhouse.
The funding for the project came from various sources including The Gannochy Trust and Perth and Kinross Council’s Perth Common Good Fund. However, it was the dedication and efforts of the club’s members that played a significant role in making the project a success through their fundraising initiatives. The improvements aim to not only enhance the club’s facilities but also to encourage participation in regional and national competitions as well as cater to local residents and visitors to the area.
Construction work commenced at the end of September and the new courts were completed by November. The installation of four new Tiger Turf courts by Grangemouth-based Sportex has elevated the playing surface quality, while the new LED floodlights contribute to better visibility during evening games. Moreover, the club is working on creating a new path for wheelchair access to the clubhouse to ensure inclusivity for disabled players, with completion scheduled for early 2025.
Overseeing this extensive project is the club’s vice-chairman, John Clark, who expressed his gratitude towards the various trusts and local groups that supported the initiative. Clark also acknowledged the pivotal role played by the club’s members in fundraising, with efforts such as an Awards and Quiz Night raising a substantial amount towards the total project cost. Additionally, the club is introducing new membership incentives to attract more individuals, particularly offering free winter memberships for junior players in Perth.
Kinnoull Tennis Club has a rich history of producing talented young players and has been a competitive force in regional leagues over the years. With the completion of these new facilities, the club is poised to continue its legacy of excellence and nurture the next generation of tennis stars.
In conclusion, the rejuvenated Kinnoull Tennis Club stands as a testament to the passion and dedication of its members and the unwavering support from various organisations. The upgraded facilities not only enhance the playing experience for current members but also open up opportunities for aspiring tennis enthusiasts to hone their skills and foster a love for the sport. It signifies a bright future for the club as it aims to continue its tradition of tennis excellence and community engagement for years to come.
