Calls to restore historic Bridge of Allan clock launched as 78-year-old arrested for crash

The 126-year-old clock, situated outside the town’s Westerton Arms on Henderson Street, was flattened after an orange Mini Cooper allegedly crashed into it. The incident occurred around 4.20pm on Friday when the car hit a barrier while exiting a car park on Henderson Street, then went on to collide with two parked cars on Union Street before striking the clock tower.
The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital for treatment and has since been released. Police have charged the driver and will be submitting a report to the Procurator Fiscal for alleged road traffic offenses. Authorities are seeking information from witnesses to help piece together the events leading up to the crash. Constable Maxwell Polley urged anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area between 4.20pm and 4.30pm to come forward.
