A new craft beer hall in Falkirk is nearing completion and is set for a festive opening, pending final approval from building standards. The Rock Bottom venue, located at Unit 5, The Arcade, Callendar Riggs, was granted another occasional licence as the finishing touches are being made. Craft brewer Andrej Rafaj’s vision of transforming the empty space into a live music and events venue is becoming a reality.
Falkirk Council’s licensing board had previously issued a licence under the condition that all construction work is completed and approved by the council’s building standards team. Although the deadline was missed, Mr. Rafaj assured the board that the venue, built from a former shop in Falkirk’s bus station, is very close to being ready. The building warrant has been approved, with a final inspection scheduled by an inspector.
If the inspection goes smoothly and all services are certified, the building standards officer mentioned that the certificate could be issued on the same day. The new occasional licence stipulates that a maximum of 130 people can be in the venue, with no children permitted initially. While the beer hall won’t have its own kitchen, arrangements have been made with local eateries to deliver food to patrons.
Not That California Hospitality director, Mr. Rafaj, who also owns the Not That California Brewing Company, hopes to create a community space that will host various events like concerts, comedy shows, and open mic nights. Through a successful crowdfunding campaign that raised nearly £12,000, the project has garnered support from the community. Despite facing delays, the team is optimistic about opening Rock Bottom before Christmas.
