Ukraine Striking Targets In Land Seized A Decade Ago By Putin, UK Says

**UK Confirms Ukraine Strikes On Russian Seized Land**

The UK government has confirmed that Ukraine is targeting areas on land seized by Russian forces over a decade ago, according to the latest intelligence reports. The strikes, including hitting a Russian air defence system in Crimea, occurred at the end of last month amid the ongoing conflict that is nearing its third anniversary.

Crimea was annexed by Vladimir Putin’s Russia in 2014, a move that was widely condemned by the international community. The conflict escalated in February 2022 when Moscow invaded Ukraine, sparking the current crisis. The Ministry of Defence provided an update stating, “On November 29, 2024, Ukrainian armed forces destroyed elements of an S-400 air defence system in Simferopol, Crimea. Social media footage captured an explosion and rocket fuel detonation linked to the destruction of the air defence system components.”

Furthermore, Ukrainian forces also successfully targeted an air defence system in Kursk Oblast in western Russia, completely destroying it with missiles. President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, disclosed on Sunday that his country has suffered 43,000 military casualties since the conflict began, refuting US president-elect Donald Trump’s claim of 400,000 Ukrainian deaths. Zelenskyy also mentioned Russia’s casualties, stating, “Russia has endured 750,000 casualties, including 198,000 fatalities and over 550,000 wounded.”

Amid concerns over Trump’s approach to the war, with promises to end it immediately upon taking office and potential pressure on Ukraine to relinquish occupied territories, Zelenskyy emphasised the need for global unity to thwart Putin’s aggression. In a social media message, Zelenskyy stated, “We know Putin very well – he is addicted to war… We count on America and the entire world to help stop Putin. The only things he fears are America and global unity.”

The conflict in Ukraine continues to evolve, with both sides engaged in strategic strikes and facing significant human losses. The international community plays a crucial role in addressing the crisis and working towards lasting peace in the region.

**Insights and Summary:**

The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has entered its third year, with recent reports indicating Ukrainian strikes on Russian-seized territory, including Crimea. The targeted attacks on air defence systems highlight the ongoing military engagements and casualties on both sides. President Zelenskyy’s plea for global unity to counter Putin’s aggression underscores the complex dynamics at play in the region. As the situation unfolds, the role of international support and diplomatic efforts becomes increasingly crucial in achieving a resolution and securing peace in Ukraine.
