Community football club in Stonehouse outlines its vision for the future

Royal Albert FC, a community football club in Stonehouse, has revealed its ambitious plans for the future as it took over the management of Tileworks Park from South Lanarkshire Council in August. The club recently hosted a tour of the upgraded facilities for esteemed guests including South Lanarkshire Provost Margaret Cooper, council leader Joe Fagan, local MP Joani Reid, and members of Stonehouse Community Council.

Ross Thomson, a committee member at Royal Albert FC, expressed the club’s dedication to transforming Tileworks Park into a vibrant sports hub for Stonehouse. Since taking over the facility, the club has expanded its youth and junior teams and collaborated with groups like the Stonehouse Pump Track Club to enhance the biking track. The community has rallied behind Royal Albert’s endeavours, with local businesses and organizations providing sponsorship and grants to support equipment purchases.

Additionally, Stonehouse Pump Track Club aims to revamp the bike track at Tileworks Park with an all-weather surface, catering to children and adults alike. MP Joani Reid commended the club’s proposals, highlighting the positive impact on the community through enhanced sports, recreation, and engagement opportunities. Provost Margaret Cooper echoed her support, emphasising the potential of the community-led initiative to benefit future generations.

Looking ahead, Royal Albert FC plans to establish new sections for walking football and girls’ teams, along with offering football holiday camps for youngsters. South Lanarkshire Council Leader Joe Fagan praised the community’s collaborative spirit and emphasized the transformative power of such initiatives for localities like Stonehouse.
