Fresh Signage Adds a Vibrant Touch to Carron Valley’s Loch Shore Trail
The Loch Shore Trail at Carron Valley has undergone a transformation with the colourful introduction of new signage. This enhancement is a result of the collaborative efforts between community rangers and stewardship teams who actively patrol the area. The partnership between Scottish Water and Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) has been extended until 2027 following a successful pilot from 2022 to 2023. As part of this initiative, a community ranger will be stationed at reservoirs near FLS sites, including Carron Valley, North Third, Kilpatrick Hills, and Cocksburn.
The newly installed signage along the Loch Shore Trail provides valuable insights into the site’s history, unique natural features, and the diverse local wildlife. In addition to offering educational content, the signs also include essential water safety tips to ensure a safe and informative experience for all visitors. Carron Valley Reservoir, which dates back to the 1930s and serves as a crucial water source for approximately 135,000 people in the Forth Valley and surrounding regions, attracts around 100,000 visitors annually. Its scenic beauty makes it a popular destination for leisure activities such as walking, cycling, and picnicking. Scottish Water’s Access Officer, David Gray, emphasised the significance of having ranger presence at sites like Carron Valley to ensure safe and responsible access, enhance visitor experiences, and promote conservation efforts.
