Wishaw MSP Leads Holyrood Event Marking 10 Years of Water Safety Scotland
Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson led a special event at the Scottish Parliament to mark the 10th anniversary of Water Safety Scotland (WSS). Established in 2014 by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), WSS is a collaborative effort aimed at promoting water safety in and around Scotland’s waterways. The celebratory evening brought together members and supporters of WSS, including organisations like the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, RNLI, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Scottish Swimming, Sport Scotland, and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.
Clare Adamson, who is the convenor of the Cross-Party Group on Accident Prevention and Safety Awareness, emphasised the importance of WSS in shaping water safety policies in Scotland. She highlighted the significant progress made in addressing gaps in data gathering through the Drowning Incident and Review process, stressing the need for a collective effort to improve water safety outcomes and save lives. Adamson expressed gratitude for the collaboration with WSS and other safety policy partners over the past decade and looks forward to continued progress in the future.
Carlene McAvoy, Senior Policy Manager at RoSPA and Founder of WSS, acknowledged the event as a vital opportunity to celebrate the achievements of WSS over the past ten years.
