A recently repaired crash barrier at a busy road in Ravenscraig has received attention for its badly-damaged condition. The metal structure, located on the approach to the A723 roundabout from New Craig Road, had suffered significant damage, with parts of the barrier almost touching the ground. This particular area has been a cause for concern due to reports of cars driving at excessive speeds and colliding with the barriers along the carriageway, especially at roundabouts.
Scottish Conservative Councillor for Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig, Nathan Wilson, highlighted the importance of maintaining road safety in Ravenscraig, a popular route for pedestrians engaging in various activities such as walking, running, and cycling. Wilson expressed gratitude towards the swift response from the roads service in replacing the weakened sections of the crash barrier near the A723 roundabout. The repairs not only ensure the safety of motorists but also protect pedestrians using the adjacent pavement.
Aside from the repairs near the roundabout, minor damages to sections of the crash barrier structure close to the housing estate, including streets like Hoy Gardens, Cook Crescent, and Peacock Wynd, have also been addressed. Wilson emphasised the need for motorists to be cautious and mindful of their speed when travelling through Ravenscraig to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
