Hero delivery driver made 75 mile trip to rescue stranded Scots family he saw on Facebook

A kind-hearted delivery driver went above and beyond by making a 75-mile round trip to rescue a stranded family he saw on Facebook. Ryan Woodrow, 23, came to the aid of Nikia Cowan, her partner Donald Martin, and their daughter Gia when their car broke down on their way home from the hospital. The family was stranded at Tyndrum in the Highlands, trying to reach the last ferry from Oban to Mull. Nikia and Donald had posted on social media after waiting for over five hours for a breakdown service that failed to show up.

Ryan, from Dunbeg, Oban, saw their plea for help and immediately offered to pick them up despite never having met them before. He quickly responded to their post with an offer to drive them to the ferry terminal, ensuring they had a car seat for their daughter. Nikia, who had just undergone surgery at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, expressed her gratitude for Ryan’s kindness in a world where such acts of generosity are rare.

Having lost his mother in September, Ryan shared that he follows in her footsteps of helping others whenever he can. The stranded family’s car had broken down earlier in the day, and after a frustrating wait for assistance, Donald reached out on social media for help getting to Oban. Ryan, a delivery driver for AM Transport, saw the post and immediately sprung into action, leaving his house promptly to rescue the family.

Despite having put his own young daughter to bed, Ryan didn’t hesitate to assist those in need. He arrived in Tyndrum, picked up the family, and managed to reach the ferry terminal just in time for them to catch their scheduled ferry to Mull. Donald expressed disappointment in the breakdown service that had left them stranded, emphasizing the importance of strangers like Ryan who restore faith in humanity with their selfless actions.

In a world where acts of kindness often go unnoticed, Ryan Woodrow’s compassionate gesture serves as a reminder of the power of compassion and community spirit. His willingness to go out of his way to help a family in distress showcases the impact that small acts of kindness can have on individuals facing challenging situations. Ryan’s actions exemplify the true essence of being a good Samaritan and remind us all of the importance of lending a helping hand to those in need.
