Heathery Park Family Learning Centre in Wishaw Officially Opens

Wishaw’s Heathery Park Family Learning Centre has been officially declared open by Provost Kenneth Duffy at a special event. The centre, previously the Wishawhill Community Centre, has undergone a complete transformation as part of the council’s extensive 1,140-hour Early Years and Childcare programme. With a capacity for up to 40 children daily, the centre provides a bright, welcoming, and nurturing environment for young learners.

Provost Duffy expressed his excitement about the new facility, stating, “The new Heathery Park Family Learning Centre is a fantastic community resource that will benefit families for years to come. It is a first-class facility where young children can learn and grow. It was a privilege to declare the new centre open, and I extend my best wishes to all the families and staff involved.”

The refurbishment involved comprehensive internal and external renovations, including external wall insulation, roof upgrades, window replacements, bathroom and kitchen enhancements, and the installation of an air-sourced heating system. Yvonne Graham, Head of Heathery Park Family Learning Centre, shared her pride in leading the centre and highlighted the positive impact it has had on the community and children.

The centre boasts well-loved building and garden areas enjoyed by both staff and children. Plans for continued learning, fun, and joy are underway to create a nurturing environment. The facility is staffed by seven qualified and experienced professionals dedicated to providing a safe and enriching space for local children.

The construction to convert the former Wishawhill Community Centre into an early years setting began in the summer of 2022. Despite facing several challenges and delays, the project has now reached completion, offering a vital resource for families in Wishaw. The opening of the Heathery Park Family Learning Centre marks a significant milestone in the community’s education and childcare services.

In summary, the Heathery Park Family Learning Centre in Wishaw has been transformed into a modern and inclusive space for children to learn and grow. The dedication of Provost Kenneth Duffy and the team involved in the refurbishment highlights the council’s commitment to early childhood education. The centre’s opening signifies a positive step towards enhancing educational opportunities for families in the Wishaw area.
