An inspirational Scottish mother who is in remission from breast cancer has joined forces with scientists to help save lives. Clare Lappin, 54, detected swelling under her right arm earlier this year, leading to a diagnosis of cancer in her left breast on April 8. Fortunately, the cancer was caught early, and Clare underwent successful lumpectomy surgery followed by radiotherapy treatment. She is now taking the hormone therapy drug Tamoxifen. Clare is working alongside Cancer Research UK funded scientists who have contributed to the advancement of Tamoxifen treatment for breast cancer patients.
Expressing her support for vital research, Clare shared, “I’m proud to support life-saving research and want to reassure those going through cancer that they are not alone.” She highlighted the emotional and physical challenges she faced during treatment and expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of her family and friends throughout her journey. Clare’s son, Thomas, who provided her with constant love and encouragement, achieved academic success during her treatment period, adding to her pride and resilience.
Dr. Saadia Karim, part of a team researching pancreatic cancer, emphasised the importance of better understanding this complex disease to improve treatment outcomes. Clare recently attended the opening of Cancer Research UK’s superstore at Forge Retail Park in Glasgow, underscoring her commitment to raising awareness and support for cancer research. Michelle Fisher, the superstore manager, expressed gratitude for Clare’s courage, encouraging others to contribute to the fight against cancer by supporting the facility.
The new Glasgow superstore will operate Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm and on Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm, welcoming volunteers and donations of high-quality items. With a focus on funding pioneering cancer research, the superstore aims to make a significant impact in advancing treatments and improving survival rates.
