Thug Slashes Man at M&Ds with Glass in Dropped Drink Row, Scarring Him for Life
A violent incident at the popular theme park M&Ds near Motherwell, Lanarkshire, has left a man scarred for life after being slashed with a piece of glass. Connor Orr, 32, attacked Liam Brannigan during a dispute over a dropped drink, leading to a violent altercation. The incident took place in March last year while Brannigan and his friends were playing pool, escalating when Orr lashed out with a piece of broken glass.
Security staff had to intervene to separate the two groups involved, but Orr, who was on a work night out, went on to strike Brannigan on the head with the glass, causing a severe injury. Brannigan required nine stitches to close a wound behind his ear and was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. Orr, a warehouse worker from Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to assault resulting in severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
Despite the seriousness of the charges, Orr was not sentenced to jail but was ordered to pay his victim £1,000 and carry out 300 hours of unpaid work. The presiding sheriff noted that Orr was spared imprisonment by a narrow margin and would be under supervision for 18 months following this incident. In his defence, Orr’s lawyer highlighted the regret and remorse his client felt for the unpremeditated attack, attributing it to a series of unfortunate circumstances that escalated beyond control.
The court emphasized the impact of Orr’s actions on the victim, highlighting the severity of the offense and the lasting effects on Brannigan. Orr was warned of potential imprisonment if he failed to meet the court’s orders of compensation and unpaid work. Acknowledging the gravity of the assault, the sheriff decided to impose a non-custodial sentence in this instance.
