Schoolboy, 13, arrested after ‘knocking out’ cop outside chip shop

A 13-year-old schoolboy has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer outside a chip shop in Kirk. The incident took place on Roughwood Drive, with reports of feral youths causing havoc by throwing bottles and stones at the shop and delivery drivers, and trying to shatter the shop’s windows. The Merseyside police were called to the scene around 6:55 pm on December 15. During the confrontation, the officer was pulled to the ground and hit his head. The officer was seen lying on his back in the road while being attended to by colleagues, as a male suspect was handcuffed nearby. An onlooker at the scene could be heard saying, “he’s been knocked out,” indicating the severity of the situation. The injured officer was taken to the hospital but has since been discharged.
