Gordonstoun School, once attended by King Charles and Prince Andrew, has decided to cut ties with a company allegedly linked to a Chinese spy. The school in Moray terminated its contract with Hampton Group International after its chairman, Yang Tengbo, was accused of spying for the Chinese government under the alias “H6”. The agreement between Gordonstoun and Hampton aimed at opening five new schools in China closely associated with Gordonstoun. Following the spying allegations, Mr. Tengbo and his legal team chose to reveal his identity to the public. Although Mr. Tengbo, also known as Chris Yang, has denied the accusations and challenged his ban from the UK, the school decided to end the partnership.
Prince Andrew, once a student at Gordonstoun, no longer has any connection to the school. Similarly, King Charles, who also received his education there, has been unaffected by the recent events. A spokesperson for Gordonstoun stated, “Gordonstoun has been made aware that Yang Tengbo, the chairman of the Hampton Group, has been named as the alleged Chinese spy known as ‘H6’. Following this information, Gordonstoun terminated its contract with the Hampton Group. For legal reasons, we are unable to provide further details at this time.”
Yang Tengbo, who has been banned from the UK since last year, has maintained his innocence and described the accusations against him as baseless. Despite losing his appeal to enter the UK, Mr. Yang insists that he has not engaged in any unlawful activities and that the claims of espionage are unfounded. In a statement, Mr. Yang expressed, “Due to the high level of speculation and misreporting in the media and elsewhere, I have asked my legal team to disclose my identity. I have done nothing wrong or unlawful, and the concerns raised by the Home Office against me are ill-founded. The widespread description of me as a ‘spy’ is entirely untrue.”
