Trust housing tenants have recently settled into their new properties in Hamilton, marking a milestone for the housing association. Six families have moved into their brand-new homes at the Glow Garren development, located on the former Philips factory site. This acquisition of six additional three-bed semi-detached homes comes a year after Trust housing purchased four houses in the same area.
One new resident, Vicky Harkness, expressed her joy at the move, highlighting how significant it is for her family. She mentioned that her children, who have been sharing a room for years, are thrilled to finally have their own space and rooms. The homes at Glow Garren, built by Lovell Partnerships, come equipped with energy-efficient features like solar panels, two parking spaces with electric vehicle charging, and integrated kitchen appliances.
To support this expansion, the Scottish Government’s “more homes” division provided a grant of £910,000, with Trust funding the remaining purchase costs. Trust housing association has significantly grown its housing stock from 2500 to nearly 4000 homes over the past five years in response to the high demand for modern, energy-efficient, and affordable social rented properties in South Lanarkshire.
Amidst a housing emergency declared by South Lanarkshire Council earlier this year, Trust director Jackie McIntosh emphasized the importance of continuing to provide affordable housing options. She highlighted the collaborative efforts with Lovell Partnerships, South Lanarkshire Council, and the Scottish Government’s more homes team in securing these new family homes at Glow Garren.
Tony Rankin, Lovell regional managing director, expressed pride in contributing to the local community by providing much-needed high-quality homes.
