## Mum Airlifted Home After Drinking ‘Poisoned’ Cocktails at Luxury Holiday Resort
A mother has been airlifted home after falling ill from drinking cocktails at a five-star hotel in Fiji. The 49-year-old woman was among several tourists who were allegedly poisoned at the Warwick Resort in Fiji. The resort is currently cooperating with an investigation into the incident.
After being hospitalised, the woman was airlifted to Brisbane, Australia, where she resides. Reports indicate that she has recovered and received clearance. The air ambulance transporting her was seen landing at a helipad in Brisbane, approximately three-and-a-half hours away from Fiji by air. Among the seven affected tourists, four are believed to be Australian. The remaining tourists, including those from other nationalities, have been discharged from the hospital.
Brent Hill, CEO of Tourism Fiji, confirmed that the 49-year-old woman is in good condition after spending four days in the hospital. Authorities in Fiji do not suspect methanol contamination in the cocktails but are awaiting toxicology results expected later today. The tourists experienced symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and headaches after consuming the beverages, as reported by a spokesperson from the Fiji Health Ministry.
Earlier in November, six tourists, including Briton Simone White, tragically passed away due to tainted cocktails in Laos. While investigations are ongoing, there have been no reports of similar illnesses at the resort or elsewhere in Fiji, a nation home to 930,000 people. The tragic incident in Laos involved tourists being offered free whisky or vodka shots over a two-hour period each night. Simone’s mother expressed heartbreak over the loss of her daughter and the devastating impact it has had on their family.
As the investigation in Fiji continues, local authorities are working to determine the cause of the tourists’ illnesses and ensure the safety of future travellers to the region.
