According to a police report from PC Alan Isherwood of Greater Manchester Police, the conflict escalated after individuals were ejected from the club due to significant damage to the club’s toilets. Subsequently, a fight involving four men erupted outside the club, leading to further violence as bystanders tried to intervene. The owner’s daughter was punched, and four men sustained injuries severe enough to require hospitalization, including a broken ankle, fractured cheek, and a brain bleed.
In response to the incident, the club’s management was called to a meeting with Manchester City Council and GMP. Suggestions were made to enhance CCTV coverage at the club and to have a trained security guard present at events with over 60 attendees. The meeting also discussed the need for professional security personnel at events, additional security training for staff, and expanded camera surveillance within the club.
Colette Renton, a spokesperson for Winston Conservative Club, raised concerns over the proposed security measures, citing the costs involved as prohibitive. She viewed the incident as an isolated occurrence and argued that the suggested conditions were disproportionate. Despite objections, the club has been instructed to comply with the council’s directives to ensure public safety.
